To you, I'm a chapter but to me, you're my whole life

Updated: May 16, 2024

“Meow?” I see my favourite lady coming towards me! She looks happy seeing me, too! Maybe I’ll stretch a little and go up to her to greet her hello. As usual, she waves me goodbye and goes back up to her room. Why does it have to be so high? I see her almost every day, going out of the block and coming back in. In and out, in and out. It’s like a routine already, but as long as I don't feel lonely, I’m fine with this. I have to think of a way to find myself some food again.

“Meow?” Where is she? The moon disappeared three times and I haven’t seen her. It feels like forever. Has she forgotten about me? Oh well, I’ll just wait here and sleep. A few days later, oh, I see you again! You asked me whether I remember you—of course! It gets super lonely here, y’know? The other cats aren’t too friendly with me; all they do is fight. I’m just here trying to find another meal to last me. Humans are more compassionate than cats. I don’t know, my experience with my birth mom wasn’t too pleasant. She was gone before I could learn how to walk properly. I’m convinced that she’s just out there making more kittens.

So anyway, the kind lady, she’s back. She doesn’t come in and out from the same block anymore, though, but the good thing is, her room is on the same level as the usual place I hang out! On nights when she opens her window, I sneak in and huddle up beside her and sleep the night away, to her amusement the day after seeing a black warm fur ball curled up beside her. She lets me sleep here, that’s good. On occasions, I accompany her doing her homework on that bright, whatchamacallit I don’t know, but she looks so focused that it makes me tired just seeing her. She stole a glance and chuckled because I slept on her bed again.

This went on for three more times. I will never get tired of waiting for her, because the pets and ear-scratching are worth it. Ah, time to wait for her again. I’ll just hang out here. I just wish these nasty dogs would get the fluff out of here.

“Meow?” Where is she... I’ll wait.

“Meow...” Well... maybe she’s busy?

I’ve lost count of how many moons I have waited. Every human I see is different now. No, she couldn’t be at another place again? She must come back...

She always comes in through this gate. Yes, I’ll wait here. I’m getting tired, though. My legs are getting weak, too. There’s a flower shrub here; I’ll lay down then.

“Meow...” I’ll take a little nap. When I wake up, I hope to see her again in another place we call paradise.
