In The Morning of Syawal

Up, up, up!

Put away the mattresses, draw the curtains,

Let the warm sunlight in through the windows.

Turn on the radio, turn up the volume,

Sing your heart out to the Raya tunes.

Up, up, up!

Uncles to the patio, Aunties to the kitchen,

Lay out the fancy china and set them on the table.

Children to the front of the house, teens to the back,

Make sure not a single speck of dust is left.

Hurry, hurry, hurry!

Bring out the kuih, prepare the drinks,

Set up the coffee table with a brand-new tablecloth.

Hurry, hurry, hurry!

Put on your ironed clothes, carefully pin your shawls,

Decorate this house with the colours of Syawal.

Come now, come all,

Stir the rendang, burn the lemang,

As children's laughter bellows through the house,

The Takbir echoing through the telly,

Fireworks booming in the sky.

Come now, come all,

Today, we will forgive and forget,

To turn over a new leaf, to begin a new chapter.

Today is Hari Raya, a day of happiness,

A celebration of Muslims around the world.
