Lesale's Revenge

Updated: Oct 8, 2021

How much would you go to avenge yourself? For Lesale the Herbalist, making sure everyone suffers the worst death possible is her idea of the sweetest revenge. Born into a normal, mundane herbalist family in the outskirts of Runn city, she spent most of her day collecting roots and herbs to be sold to local merchants or citizens at her family’s shop. For years she had been living as a sweetheart who was adored by everyone, until a day came when she transformed into a vengeful soul.

During the ceremony of the birth of the serpent-headed god Aktok, everyone was expected to bring an offering to the altar located at the center of the city. No one was exempted, including Lesale. She brought the best herbs she could find, ones that could treat even the most lethal wound. It is of their family heritage, made by secret ingredients. On her way there, she heard a wailing, a cry for help in the bushes near the forest. When she looked over, she saw a man with a dagger stabbed to his stomach. She hesitated for a while, but helped him anyway because she thought it was necessary. She used the herbs to treat him. Suddenly, the man grinned and disappeared into the thin air. The man only left a whisper; ‘I will grant you a wish during a desperate time.’

She continued her journey into the altar, with nothing left to offer. When she was asked why by the priest, she calmly told the weird encounter she just had, only to be called a liar and disrespectful towards the house of Aktok. She was caught, and tied up. Pleading for her freedom, she asked for a fair trial to prove her innocence. To her disappointment, nobody could confirm her stories, hence she was guilty of lying and disrespecting the house of Aktok. The punishment is brutal; she will be crossed and her skin will be flayed alive. She begged and begged but kept receiving beatings instead. After being hanged on the cross, the executor flayed her skin. She then wished for revenge.

The scream halted everyone for a moment before the punishment continued when suddenly her blood boiled where her skin started to melt and wear the scales of a snake. Her body transformed into a cobra, with her kin’s herb mixed within her blood, producing a venom fatal enough to melt steel, and cause unimaginable pain to those who touch it. The cobra she had become resembled Aktok; symbol of death and destroyer of the world. As of this moment, Lesale the herbalist is no more, only Lesale the Deathbringer. With the new power and venom, she proceeded on a rampage, plotting devious works of devouring and killing in the city in compensation for her injustice.
